Pack for retrieval, not perfect cataloguing
Moving is already a large job. A system that asks for every item will often be abandoned. Name each box clearly and capture the few contents that distinguish it from the other boxes going to the same room.
Mark the first-night boxes
Keep chargers, medication, bed linen, a kettle, mugs, toiletries, basic tools and important documents easy to identify. Add “open first” to the box name or note, and keep those boxes physically accessible.
Search before opening
When you need something, search the box list first. If you are standing beside a stack, scan the visible label to confirm the contents before cutting the tape. Update the box if something was packed at the last minute.
Share one current household link
Helpers should use the same current box list instead of maintaining separate notes. If the link is shared with the wrong person, replace it so the old one stops working.
Finish cleanly
Export the list if you need a record, then delete the complete move when the inventory is no longer useful. A moving tool should not become permanent storage by accident.
